Volunteer Activities

Over the last sixty years, there have been two major technical trends.  Software has matured from the Art of Programming into Computer Science and Software Engineering.  From a bag of tricks practiced in the 1950's and 1960's to  an engineering  discipline with standards of practice, design patterns, and building codes.  This enabled the development of complex software on board aircraft, as well as, the internet and mobile software apps.

Also there has been a vast body of knowledge and experience built up in the space and military programs that has allowed us to reach the moon and planets. This knowledge is in danger of being lost without a new generation of scientists and engineers to not only preserve that knowledge but to advance it in newer, better, and unforseseen directions.

DB Soft 68 is a strong advocate of interesting our young people in careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM), then providing them with the necessary education, training, and mentoring in those fields.

If you know of opportunities to help young people find careers in STEM, please bring them to my attention.
